Melaka is not a backpacker town that is on everybody’s lips. From the travel blog posts I’ve read about Melaka, the consensus seems to be “yeh, make the effort to stay there for 24 hours”. I don’t get it. Melaka is so much more than a stop-over town to other parts of Malaysia. I love it so much that I’m making myself at home and spending two weeks here. It’s charming, it’s beautiful, it has great food and shopping – but it’s also really really cool. And nothing demonstrates quite how cool Melaka is like the awesome street art that is on display throughout the city. I’m not talking about some spray-painted graffiti here and there. This whole UNESCO heritage town is a canvas. There is in fact so much street art in Melaka that it’s difficult to take it all in. A two minute stroll along the riverside and you will see tens of artworks, all competing for your attention.
I reckon that Melaka’s street art is something to scream and shout about – here are some snaps I’ve taken while in this awesome patch of south Malaysia.
Nifty, eh? What do you make of this street art?
