Central Mexico is heaving with stunning towns and cities, each with its own style of architecture, each with its own culture and personality. In my opinion, there is none more impressive than Guanajuato, the state capital of err, Guanajuato. The small city is also steeped in history and culture, so whether you are interested in taking in some cultural events at the Cervantino Festival during October, you want to check out the birthplace of Diego Rivera, the famous socialist painter, or you wish to learn all about Mexican independence (in which Guanajuato played a major role) then Guanajuato is sure to be a winning backpacking destination for you. For me, I simply love walking in and around the winding, hilly streets, taking in all the charm of this unique cityscape. Check out some of the beauty I found in Guanajuato on my 5 day visit.
